General Info
The Accra Historical Tour is a full-day journey through the Ghanaian capital's most significant historical and cultural landmarks. The day begins at the National Museum of Ghana, tracing the country's story from pre-colonial times through independence, before moving into the everyday rhythm of the city at Makola Market, one of West Africa's most vibrant trading hubs.
From there, the tour continues into James Town — one of Accra's oldest neighbourhoods, known for its
colonial-era architecture, vivid street art, and the iconic James Fort — with a climb up the lighthouse for panoramic coastal views. The afternoon turns to Ghana's independence story, visiting the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and the mausoleum of the nation's first president, before a stop at the W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre, connecting the day to Ghana's wider pan-African and diaspora history.
The day closes at Independence Square (Black Star Square), the vast open space symbolising Ghana's liberation from colonial rule, home to the Black Star Gate and the Eternal Flame lit by Nkrumah himself, before a final photo stop at Osu Castle (Fort Christiansborg) — a former slave-trading fort that later served for decades as the seat of Ghana's government, viewed from the exterior.
