Wli Waterfalls, located in the Volta Region of Ghana near the village of Wli, is the tallest waterfall in West Africa. The falls are divided into two sections: the lower falls, which are more accessible, and the upper falls, which require a more strenuous hike. Locally known as Agumatsa Waterfalls, meaning "Allow Me to Flow," the falls are approximately 280 kilometres from Accra.
Legend has it that the falls were discovered by a group of hunters who mistook the sound of the cascading water for the beating of a talking drum, and followed the sound to the falls. The surrounding area, part of the Agumatsa Wildlife Sanctuary, is rich in biodiversity, including lush forests, fruit bat colonies, and diverse wildlife. Private transport collects you from your Accra hotel, apartment, or airport no later than 4:00 AM for the full round trip. Local guide fees, VTG's own guide, entry to both falls, breakfast, and lunch are all managed by Venue Tours Group. This is a very long, genuinely demanding day — bring sturdy closed-toe shoes and be prepared for an early start and a late return.
